How to build a home KTV system in the United States within $1,000

Jan 05,2024 | Blume

1. Why build a home karaoke system?

In other words, what are the benefits of having a karaoke system at home?

  • free: Sing whenever and wherever you want
  • economy: One-time investment, long-term free
  • social contact: Can be used to add fun to friends’ gatherings
  • study: Children can learn Chinese through singing
  • show off: Practice singing at home and then go to KTV to become a blockbuster
  • have no choice: There are not KTVs everywhere in the United States.

2. The essence of the karaoke system and the corresponding construction direction:

Let us take a look at the basic functions that a KTV private room karaoke system should have:

  • First, it allows you to choose the song you want to sing on the song request device;
  • Second, it can display the pictures and lyrics matching the song on the screen;
  • Third, it can play the accompaniment of the song and your singing voice in the speaker.

In fact, it’s very simple, isn’t it? The essence of the karaoke system is just these three points, and there is no need for any more. And we will start from these three points and select and purchase three aspects (requesting songs, videos, and audios), step by step A karaoke system with sound effects comparable to KTV private rooms was built.

3. Features and list of the home karaoke system we are going to build:

The characteristics of the home karaoke system we are going to build are:

  • One is to make full use of existing devices in the home (mobile phones and TVs);
  • Second, the connection is simple (there will be detailed connection diagrams);
  • Third, it has professional sound effects (confirmed by friends who have participated in domestic singer competitions).

The song request system is equivalent to the jukebox in a KTV private room. Simply put, its function is to search and call song videos and play them on our video and audio equipment.

3-1. Recommended entry-level karaoke system equipment and prices:

  • Smart TVs and mobile phones: I already have it at home, and it comes with an audio cable.
  • Two wired microphonesShure SM58S, $104×2
  • A pair of PA speakers: Alto TS312, $249.99 x 2; those who like the JBL brand can choose JBL EON 612, $329 x 2 (note: both are out of stock; the Alto TS series has been upgraded from the old 3xx to the new 4xx, and the closest price is the 10″ TS410$299.00 at Amazon; JBL EON 612’s upgraded new model is EON 712,$569.00 at Amazon
  • A mixerYamaha MG10XU,$210
  • Four wiresLivewire Essential, the total price of four pieces is around $100

Total: $918 (equipment except wires) + $100 (wires) = $1018 (if you choose JBL speakers, you need to add $158).

Yes, you read that right, a budget of just over $1000 is enough! And there is no compromise on quality. The three-piece set of microphone, speakers, and mixer are all from well-known brands, and the sound effect is comparable to that of a KTV private room. For ordinary people, it is no problem to double as a home theater, and it is completely acceptable to double as a high-fidelity sound system. Of course, if you are a Hi-Fi enthusiast, just pretend I didn't say anything. What you are dealing with here are ordinary people with normal ears and high requirements for sound quality, but who are not as high as a fever. I think at least for karaoke systems, you can already use the equipment for performances with a budget of just over $1,000. Below is a real photo.

3-2. Karaoke system equipment and prices that can be upgraded in the future:

The main thing is to upgrade wired microphones to wireless microphones and PA speakers to Bose:

  • Smart TVs and mobile phones: I already have it at home, and it comes with an audio cable.
  • Wireless microphone set of twoShure BLX288/SM58,$649.00
  • A pair of PA speakersBose S1 Pro,$599.99×2
  • A mixerYamaha MG10XU,$209.99
  • Two wiresLivewire Elite Quad, the total price of two pieces is around $100

Total: $2059 (equipment except wires) + $120 (wires) = $2159.

This upgrade is an improvement in comfort (wireless microphone) and full-audio sound effects (Bose speakers), making it a stress-free cross-border karaoke, home theater, and high-fidelity audio system. Personally, I think that a home karaoke system that costs just over $2,000 is enough. Any higher cost (for example, more than $3,000) will have little significance in improving the sound quality.

Part 1|Hardware of song request system: classification and selection

The song request system is equivalent to the jukebox in a KTV private room. Simply put, its function is to search and call song videos and play them on our video and audio equipment. In a home karaoke system, we can use many methods to request songs.

Section 1, traditional karaoke machine/jukebox (recommended for novices to buy)

The karaoke machine actually downloads the song video files in the machine's hard drive or DVD disc in advance, and then searches and calls them when singing. Because KTV private rooms basically use this type of equipment, the song request effect using a traditional karaoke machine/jukebox is the same as that in a KTV private room.

1. Its advantages:

  • Call songs locally so no need to connect to the internet
  • HD quality is guaranteed most of the time

2. But it also has obvious shortcomings:

  • One is the price: Commercially available desktop karaoke machines in the United States start at US$300 without a touch screen, and start at US$600 with a touch screen. If you add a pair of unknown brand microphones, the price will be more than US$800. This is not to say that the price is unaffordable, but It’s not worth it. What you get is really not proportional to what you pay. Please read on;
  • The second is quality: The most expensive part of a karaoke machine is its hard drive, and the quality is also the most worrisome. Karaoke machines with DVDs also need to worry about the optical drive. I bought a karaoke machine in the United States less than half a year ago. , I couldn’t read the disk after only singing it a few times, and later I couldn’t start it at all;
  • The third is the relationship between music and video: The videos of many songs are scenery or models that have nothing to do with the content of the song. This is especially obvious for new songs. It is estimated that the manufacturer does not have the complete copyright. For example, it only purchased the right to use the song, but does not own the right to use the MV;

3. Summary:

From a price point of view, I do not recommend using karaoke machines/jukeboxes for home karaoke in the United States (but they can be used for commercial use in KTV rooms, because many American dealers provide free after-sales service for systems priced over $3,000. Includes repairs and updated songs).

Section 2, DIY song request system using computer (not recommended for non-DIY enthusiasts, can be skipped)

As mentioned in the previous section, the working principle of commercially available karaoke machines is very simple: first copy the song video to the local hard drive or DVD disk, and then call and request songs through a software. In terms of these two functions, an (old) computer (either a desktop or a laptop) can do it, and it can do more and better.

1. To use a computer to create a song request system, you need to do the following three steps:

The first step is to download and install the song request software:

There are many song request software on the Internet, and their functions are basically the same. The difference mostly lies in the beautiful interface. Among them, Amangeba is a truly free KTV song request system that I have used for a long time. The official website ishttp://www.amanktv.cn/。
(It turned out that a lot of content was written here, but since I don’t recommend it for ordinary families, I deleted it all.)

Step 2: Download the song video:

Likewise, there are many places online where you can download KTV song videos (the format is .MKV). For example, the MV Download Wizard website provides free MV video downloads in MKV format. The website address iswww.mvmkv.com; There are many other websites that offer paid download services.

Step 3: Wireless song request (optional):

If you want to sit on the sofa and request songs, instead of always returning to the computer to operate the software, you also need to use the following two methods to wirelessly control the computer to achieve wireless song request:

  • wireless keyboard;
  • Install software and applications on your computer and mobile phone (or tablet) that allow your mobile phone to remotely operate your computer. I use TeamViewer.

2. Summary:

Using a computer to make a song request system is more than sufficient in terms of performance, and you can also use old computers, which is economical and economical. However, because it is equivalent to DIYing a song request system from scratch, you need to install the song request software yourself, and you need to find each song yourself, which takes a lot of time and energy, so it is only suitable for very interested DIY players, not suitable for ordinary families. As a karaoke system for entertainment purposes.

Section 3: Use your mobile phone to request songs (suitable for people who are proficient in using electronic devices)

This method is to install the karaoke application on your mobile phone (it can also be a tablet, the method is the same; or a TV box, the method is similar), search and call online song video files when singing karaoke, and then cast the video and song to the screen. Cast to TV. This is a unique method of requesting songs in the era of high-speed Internet, and it is also the method of requesting songs that I currently use.

1. Its advantages:

  • First, due to the high penetration rate of everyone having a touch screen smartphone, you no longer need to spend extra money to purchase a song requesting device, and at the same time you have great freedom in how you request songs.: Imagine that you can hold your phone in any position and request songs anywhere, without having to get up from the sofa and walk to the screen of the karaoke machine to request songs (of course, many jukeboxes now also support mobile phone Wi-Fi) Request songs after connecting); when multiple people are singing, you can switch to use any mobile phone to cast the screen, so switching songs is extremely free.
  • Second, you can make full use of the massive free song and video resources on the Internet.: This is the biggest advantage of using your mobile phone to request songs. One of the karaoke apps I recommend uses its own song library, and the other actually uses YouTube resources. So how many songs are there on YouTube, the largest video website in the United States? In an article "YouTube Music vs. Spotify — Which is the better streaming music service? Can the biggest name in streaming video overtake the biggest name in streaming music?" by ARA WAGONER mentioned: "Spotify is listed in its directory There are more than 30 million songs...and YouTube has many more songs." You can search for almost all song videos on YouTube: from classic old songs to new Douyin songs, from revolutionary songs to children's songs , from movie and TV hits to popular dance songs, there is nothing you can’t think of, and there is nothing you can’t find.
  • Third, it is easy to operate: As long as it can be searched on the mobile phone, it can be played. Children can also search and play by themselves.
  • The fourth is music and video related: Most song videos are related to the content of the song. Even if a new song doesn't have an official MV, there will always be scrolling photos of the singer, or related clips made by the producer himself. It's rare that the song is a touching love song and the picture is of a swimsuit model on the beach, like a karaoke machine, where the text is out of place.
  • Fifth, ultra-fast update speed: More and more artists and production companies choose to release their latest songs online; even if it doesn't happen for a while, there will be good people who will take advantage of it. For example, the TV series "Chen Qing Ling" was broadcast on Tencent Video on June 27, 2019. Just a few days later, on July 8, Tencent officially released the [non-MV] OST of the theme song "Uninhibited" on YouTube ( Xiao Zhan, Wang Yibo duet), and then released the official MV of the theme song (Zhou Bichang version) less than a month later on July 26. This near-instant update speed is simply beyond the reach of traditional karaoke machine manufacturers.

2. There are several limitations/disadvantages in requesting songs on mobile phones:

  • Because online resources are called, the Internet must be connected: However, considering that mobile phones and Wi-Fi networks are as standard as water, electricity and gas in homes in the United States, this fact cannot be regarded as a shortcoming, but rather a limitation;
  • Some song videos do not have HD quality, only SD quality: This is especially true for old songs, because the VCD image quality has been very satisfactory many years ago: so unless it is a remake, the old songs in the original singer's MV will be in standard definition quality. This is actually a common problem between karaoke machines and network resources, and is not unique to mobile phone song requesting.
  • It’s not easy to find the right karaoke app: There are original songs, MV videos, and the ability to cast the screen to a large TV. These are the three functions I hope the karaoke application can achieve. After spending a lot of time painstakingly combing through and trying out, I found that there are not many apps on the app market that can meet these three requirements at the same time.

3. Summary:

The popularity and convenience of mobile phones, as well as the amazing number and update speed of online free music videos, make it more suitable for home use as a karaoke song request system than traditional jukeboxes. In the next section of "Software of the Song Request System: Mobile Karaoke Application", I will introduce in detail the necessary applications for mobile phone request.

Now that we have prepared the song request system, we will cast the MV video and audio displayed by the mobile karaoke application to the TV at home. There are two situations:

Situation 1. If your TV is a smart TV

The so-called smart TV is simply a TV that can connect to the Internet (most of the TVs produced since 2015 are smart TVs). If your TV is a smart TV, it can be connected directly to your mobile phone wirelessly without purchasing any other equipment such as a set-top box/TV box. The method of screencasting is also very simple:

1. First ensure that the mobile phone and TV use the same Wi-Fi network

2. Use the "screen mirroring" function of your mobile phone to cast the screen to the TV:

  • iPhone: First open the control center panel, then select "Screen Mirroring", then click to select the device name of the corresponding TV.
  • Android phone: Open the quick settings panel, then select "Screen Cast or Cast", and then click to select the device name of the corresponding TV.
  • 3. Full-screen playback: Okay, now the MV video of the national karaoke song on your mobile phone has been projected onto your smart TV screen, along with the accompaniment and original song (if you have turned on the original song). But on TV it is also like the vertical version of a mobile phone screen, so what should we do?

    First click "Close KTV".

  • Then turn the phone from portrait to landscape (it must be rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise). At this time, the screen changes to "large character lyrics mode", and then click the "KTV" icon in the lower left corner (again: this is based on what I just said a few days ago). Older versions released before version 7.0, such as version 6.4; version 7.0 has cut off this feature, and I don’t know when it will be restored. If you are an iPhone user and have already installed National Karaoke before, do not upgrade to version 7.0 ;If Android phone users have upgraded, they can delete version 7.0 and download version 6.4 for use).
  • Click "Start KTV" to record again.

Situation 2: If your TV is not a smart TV

Traditional TVs cannot access the Internet, so if your TV is not a smart TV, you can obtain the Internet function by purchasing a screen projector or TV box, so that your mobile phone can be wirelessly connected to the TV.

There are many types of screen projectors or TV boxes, and the two most basic ones are produced by Google.Chromecastand produced by Apple Inc.Apple TV. Because most of the current mobile operating systems are products of these two companies, it is logical to buy the corresponding TV box according to your mobile phone: Apple mobile phones can directly search for Apple TV without installing any applications, and the same is true for Android phones. You can also search for Chromecast without installing any applications. This is the simplest and least error-prone method. Of course, you can also cast iPhone content to Chromecast, or cast Android phone content to Apple TV, provided that you need to install certain screen casting applications on your phone and know how to use them.

In addition to the simple Chromecast and expensive Apple TV, there are also affordable but powerful Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, and TV boxes such as Xiaomi Box. They can also connect your mobile phone to the TV, and you can even install karaoke applications directly on these TV boxes, but you still need to understand their official screen mirroring applications and installation methods. Since the topic of this article is the karaoke system, I will not go into details here.

Part 2, audio equipment and its connection and debugging methods

The long-awaited audio equipment has finally arrived! The mobile phones, TVs, etc. mentioned before are all already owned by ordinary families, and they are extremely familiar to them. The audio equipment used in karaoke systems is a new area we want to cover. Much of the content below will be new and unclear knowledge even for Hi-Fi players and home theater enthusiasts.

First, here’s the equipment you absolutely don’t need:

  • amplifier
  • Passive speakers
  • hi-fi
  • home theater equipment
  • Professional cutting and wiring

All we need are three pieces of audio equipment:

  1. microphone
  2. Mixer
  3. PA system speakers

And the wires with adapter interfaces that connect them.

1. Microphone

1-1. Common microphones can be divided into two categories:

One is a dynamic microphone (Dynamic Microphone), and the other is a condenser microphone (Condenser Microphone). The karaoke microphone must be a dynamic microphone.

此图像的alt属性为空;文件名为mic-2.jpg

1-2. Why are dynamic microphones suitable for karaoke?

This is because dynamic microphones have two characteristics:

  • First, the dynamic coil type is less sensitive to background sounds than the capacitive type. Simply put, it can only pick up sounds at close range and louder volumes, which exactly meets the needs of karaoke.: When singing, you don’t want the sounds of your friends around you (ambient sounds) or your own breathing (low volume) between lyrics to be picked up by the microphone, right? And it can also accept sudden increases in volume without producing "sound popping" (for example, when you hit a high pitch).
  • Second, compared with the capacitive type, the moving coil type is simply synonymous with "indestructible". Even if it accidentally falls to the ground, the possibility of damage is much smaller. This is also the reason why all the microphones used by lead singers in concerts are dynamic.

By the way, condenser microphones. Condenser microphones are generally used in studio recordings because they are more sensitive to sound and can record the most delicate changes in the singer's voice. However, the disadvantage is also here: condenser microphones will pick up all surrounding sounds, no matter how big or small. For example, environmental sounds and ventilation sounds will be recorded, and these unwanted sounds need to be removed by post-production audio processing software: Therefore Condenser microphones are not suitable for live concert broadcasts. Another problem is that condenser microphones are too delicate and need to be treated gently, unlike dynamic microphones that can be thrown on the sofa and be fine.

The reason why the English names of the above two types of microphones are also listed here is because it is not necessarily possible to accurately distinguish them based on their appearance: dynamic microphones are also made into non-handheld styles, while condenser microphones are also available in non-handheld styles. There are also handheld ones. So whether you are shopping online or choosing in a store, be sure to confirm that it is a dynamic model before purchasing.

1-3. Several frequently asked questions when purchasing:

Question 1: Should I buy a wired or wireless microphone?

Answer: Wired microphones are inexpensive and easy to install, but they have the inconvenience of mopping the floor with wires; wireless microphones are twice as expensive and require a few more steps to install and debug, but they are more convenient to use because there are no wires to mop the floor.

Question 2: Should I buy one microphone or two microphones?

Answer: If you want to sing duet but don’t want to change one microphone back and forth, you have to buy two microphones. My suggestion is to buy two for general household use.

Question 3: What should I pay attention to?

Answer: Whether it is a wired microphone or a wireless microphone: be sure to choose a microphone with a microphone sound switch. (If you have bought a microphone without a switch, you must buy a microphone lead with a switch to make up for it.)

  • Wired microphone: Consider the length of the wire you purchase based on the distance between the mixer and your singing position.
  • wireless microphone: When purchasing, you should decide whether you want a single microphone system or a dual microphone system (Dual Vocal, or Dual Channel). There is no way to upgrade a single microphone system to a dual microphone system unless you buy another single microphone system.

Question 4: What can you recommend?

  • Wired microphone: What I purchased myself isShure SM58S wired microphone, with microphone switch. This is a very common microphone used in concerts and karaoke competitions. It can be said that it has been tested for a long time and is not expensive. I bought one from B&H a long time ago. After trying it out, I felt that the wire mopping problem was not as big a problem as I thought, so I bought a second one.I recommend buying at B&H, because they provide a three-piece set of "microphone + 20 feet of wire + microphone stand", which is only $11 more than the simple microphone at the Guitar Center store, but it has more stands and wires, so there is no need to buy microphone wires.
  • Shure SM58S Professional Vocal Microphone w/On/Off Switch (2 Pack)
  • wireless microphone: If you want to upgrade your wireless microphone in the future, I think I would recommend purchasing it.Shure BLX288/SM58 Dual-Channel Wireless System(Shure BLX288/ SM58 wireless dual microphone). Let me explain: It is also a wireless dual microphone system, and the SM58 microphone has much better sound quality than the PG58, soShure BLX288/SM58price ratioShure BLX288/PG58At $100 more I think it's worth it.
  • 2. Powered PA Speaker

    ah! Now it’s time for the speakers. There are so many types of speakers that it’s dizzying to choose from, and the speakers are the most expensive part of the sound system, so you have to be cautious.

    2-1. Choose the correct speaker for singing karaoke:

    Regarding what speakers to use for singing karaoke, you may have many questions you want answered, such as "Can I use a home theater to sing karaoke?", "Can I use a Hi-Fi speaker to sing karaoke?", "Can I use it to sing karaoke?" Use desktop speakers to sing karaoke?" My answer is: Either way. Not only can all the speakers mentioned above be used to sing karaoke, I have also tried singing using the laptop’s built-in speakers and the TV’s own speakers. However, shouldn't the real question be: "What kind of speakers can be used to sing karaoke to have an effect similar to that of a KTV private room?"

    With this question in mind, I visited a local family-run audio equipment store that has been in business for three generations. This 70-year-old store is small but has been featured in the music section of local newspapers many times. The old shop owner’s answer to my question was:

First, speakers can be simply divided into two categories based on different purposes of use: home Hi-Fi speakers and professional PA speakers (Public Address Speaker, PA Speaker for short). Hi-Fi speakers are mainly designed to reproduce studio sounds, while PA speakers are mainly designed to produce live sounds.

Let me talk about it here: There are very few introductions to PA speakers in China (compared to home high-fidelity speakers), and there is not even a special name. Sometimes they are called professional speakers, and sometimes they are called stage speakers, so everyone knows about them. Naturally not much. However, for employees in foreign audio equipment stores, it is natural that PA speakers should be the first choice for karaoke systems, because PA speakers are originally designed for live speeches or performances.

Second, most of the traditional Hi-Fi speakers are passive speakers (also known as Passive Speakers, which require no power supply), and you need to buy an additional power amplifier when using them; while more than three-quarters of PA speakers are active speakers (also known as Passive Speakers, which require no power supply). Active Speakers require a power supply. They have built-in power amplifier components, so there is no need to buy an adapted power amplifier. Great, one more thing has been saved!

As the official website of Yamaha America said in "What are power amplifiers?" "Because the power amplifier built into the active PA speaker is specially designed for the speaker's speaker, the combination of the two has excellent adaptability, allowing the speaker to get the best Perfect performance. Since the built-in power amplifier is designed specifically for the speaker, the speaker and power amplifier combination feature superior compatibility, allowing the speaker to perform to the fullest." So this is not only a matter of saving trouble and money, but also It's a matter of getting better sound.

Third, although Hi-Fi speakers/home theaters "can" be used for singing karaoke, due to the uncertainty of live vocals, it is better to use PA speakers that can withstand high power, rather than those that can withstand less power. Many Hi-Fi speakers. Under the impact of sudden large signals, Hi-Fi speakers are much more likely to burn out than PA speakers.

So the conclusion of the old shop owner is: I need to buy a Powered PA Speaker, and I only need to buy a mixer, not an amplifier. Because their store specializes in home Hi-Fi audio, he suggested that I go to Guitar Center to check it out.

I have to praise the professionalism and character of this old family store. You must know that I came here with the idea of buying all the equipment here, and discussed with the old store owner for a long time "How to use Hi- Fi speakers sing karaoke”. Just like the old shop owner himself said, "Although Hi-Fi speakers are not very good for singing karaoke, it is not impossible." However, he still transferred the business to other businesses that are more suitable for customers' needs, just because in Karaoke singers may damage Hi-Fi speakers when they hit high notes, which will harm the interests of customers.

2-2. Summary:

  • If you already own a Hi-Fi speaker/home theater: Then you can use existing equipment to sing karaoke, but you must pay attention to the singing volume to prevent the risk of "burning the speaker".
  • If it is a newly installed system: Professionals in both Hi-Fi audio stores and performance equipment stores recommend using active PA speakers for singing karaoke, because active PA speakers are originally designed for stage performances, concerts, and assembly speeches. It can withstand extremely high volumes, so it is the ideal speaker equipment for karaoke.
  • The active PA speaker itself already has a complete drive circuit, crossover, and power amplifier, so it can ensure stable sound quality. There is no need to connect a power amplifier, and it will not be affected by wires.
  • Regarding the question of whether to buy one speaker or a pair of speakers?: I bought a pair of speakers for stereo sound.
  • Personal feelings are very important when choosing speakers. If conditions permit, it is best to go to an audio equipment store to compare and audition; if conditions do not permit, you can search YouTube for videos of auditions of different speakers.
  • Karaoke system doubles as other purposes: Regarding this system using Alto TS312 active PA speakers, my personal feeling is that the sound effect is very good when watching movies, and the effect of playing high-fidelity music should be more delicate than JBL EON 612.

Okay, let’s get down to business, let’s take a look at the mixer that connects various devices together.

3. Mixer

With TVs, microphones, and speakers, you need a machine that can connect them all together. This machine is a mixer, and some people also call it a mixer. The function of the mixer is to receive sounds from different sources (such as microphones, electronic keyboards, MV videos), mix, amplify and modify them internally, and then output them to the speakers uniformly. The simplest mixer simply converts multiple audio sources into one output to the speakers. Complex mixers also have additional functions such as sound effects and computer recording.

When I was choosing a mixer at Guitar Center, the store clerk recommended the Yamaha MG10XU without hesitation. Because:

  • The Yamaha brand is synonymous with high-quality speaker equipment, so there is no need to worry about sound quality and effects.
  • Japan is the country where the first karaoke machine was born in the world. Since 1971, the trend of singing karaoke has been enduring. As a Japanese company, Yamaha has very thoughtfully preset the karaoke sound effect ("14. KARAOKE") in this mixer. One-click operation can meet the basic requirements of karaoke. This is what I like most about it. . In addition to karaoke sound effects, it also has a total of 24 preset digital sound effects, suitable for playing when you are bored.
  • This is a pure mixing console without power amplifier, which has a protective effect on PA speakers. I used to use a "full-featured performance sound effector" customized by a domestic manufacturer. It has a built-in power amplifier and can be connected to passive speakers. However, the salesperson at Guitar Center said that it is easier to damage PA speakers that have built-in power amplifiers.
  • This mixer has a USB port: You can output your singing voice directly to computer recording for post-processing. Very professional, isn’t it? What's more important is that this is a recording with almost no background noise!
  • This mixer has four microphone/instrument inputs (for example, two microphones + a guitar + an electronic keyboard can be connected at the same time): I think it can meet the needs of most people. Even if the child is interested in starting a small band in the future, it will be no problem.

此图像的alt属性为空;文件名为91oO-XhUFYL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

In addition, Yamaha also has a low-end version with sound effects, the Yamaha MG06X 6-Channel Mixer, which is nearly half the price and has reduced functions: only two microphone/instrument inputs, no USB interface so computer recording is not possible, and 6 sound effects. There is no "KARAOKE" sound effect specially set for karaoke, so you need to adjust it yourself, but we only need it to have basic mixing, amplification and modification functions, so it is okay. It is not recommended to buy another Yamaha MG10 version because it lacks the suffix "XU" than the Yamaha MG10XU version. One of them refers to the sound effect (Effect, X), and the other refers to the USB interface (connected to the computer, U). This reduces playability and expandability without reducing the price too much.

After buying the Yamaha MG10XU, you may be as intimidated as I was by the densely packed knobs and buttons on the panel. In fact, because it has preset karaoke sound effects, its operation is almost fool-proof. In the following part about how to connect various devices, I will attach the setup diagram of the mixer. According to my setup, you can basically get a better karaoke effect.

If you are still hesitant to do it after reading the detailed introduction above, then buy a ready-made karaoke machine. Although the effect is not that good, it is simple and cheap. Here are some models with better reviews.
